Lexington Fire Department

Operations Division

The largest division within the Lexington Fire Department is the Operations Division, which is responsible for fire suppression, first responder medical services, rescue activities, mitigation of disasters and hazardous materials.

In addition to emergency work, Operations Division Firefighters inspect industrial, commercial, and multi-residential occupancies on a regular basis. Division members provide a wide range of services to the community including blood-pressure screening, tours of fire stations and apparatus, and fire and life safety presentations within the community.

Organization

The Operations Division is comprised of three platoons of firefighters operating four companies who work an alternating schedule of 24-hour shifts. Each platoon is supervised by a Deputy Chief who is responsible for the emergency and administrative activities of all members assigned to that platoon.

Fire Department Services

Firefighters do much more than just fight fires. They provide a wide variety of services within the community such as:

* Physically inspect industrial, commercial and multi-residential buildings for fire safety violations.
* Ensure fire permit requirements are complied with and are current.
* Provide basic life support and assist EMS personnel.
* Perform non-emergency service calls such as installing smoke detectors in homes.
* Provide stand-by fire and life support at large public events such as The Barbeque Festival.
* Assist with investigations of suspicious fires.
* Active contributers in the community through participation and/or sponsorship of a variety of events.
* Work within the community to educate and raise general awareness on issues of life safety.
* Provide "walk-in" blood pressure screening at neighborhood fire stations.
* Give free fire station tours upon request.
