Lexington Fire Department Technologies The Lexington Fire Department is committed to embracing technologies that strengthen our mission of providing fire and life safety protection to our community and guests in a safer, more efficient manner. Below are some of the resources and programs the fire department currently uses. Scott Eagle Thermal Imaging Camera Through the generosity of the Lexington Professional Firefighters Association and the Duracell Corporation, the fire department utilizes two Scott Eagle Imager thermal imaging cameras. The cameras allow firefighters to cut through blinding smoke to effect quicker and safer search and rescue operations, seek out hidden fires and, through a video link, allow incident commanders to visualize what is happening inside the structure. One camera is utilized by the Ladder Company and the second is stored in the command vehicle to be readily available for rapid intervention crews, a second rescue team or for multiple incidents. 3M Opticom Priority Control System The Opticom system enhances time-critical travel for fire companies responding to emergencies by allowing fire apparatus to request and receive green lights at intersections as they respond to the scene. Opticom increases the measure of safety for responding fire crews and the motoring public by reducing the need for fire apparatus to move against red lights at intersections. The system is comprised of receivers and computerized switching equipment at each equipped intersection and an infrared emitter installed on each vehicle.
