Lexington Fire Department

The Present

Today the Lexington Fire Department is a professional, career department providing staffed fire and life safety protection to the community twenty-four hours a day. In an effort to add value and continuity of service the department has evolved the traditional mission of fire suppression to include; rescue services, hazardous material abatement and medical response. Additionally the department provides decentralized, comprehensive education and fire code complience programs.

The department protects a diverse population of 22,000 located in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina. The city is a mixture of urban, suburban and rural landscapes. Within that mixture is a myriad of agricultural, residential, business, transportation, manufacturing, and industrial protection concerns.

To address those concerns the Lexington Fire Department currently deploys four companies out of three strategically located fire stations within the city. Staffing is comprised of forty- eight professionals in command and operations divisions, spread among three platoons and daytime administration. Additionally the department maintains contractual relationships with nearby organizations to augment the city force. The fire department enjoys an Insurance Services Organization (ISO) class 3 rating.
