What to Do if You Smell Gas

Your sense of smell is one way you can tell there’s a gas leak. For safety reasons, a strong pungent odorant is added to natural gas so you can detect leaks. If your nose tells you there’s gas in your vicinity, here is what you should do:

If the odor is slight and it’s near an appliance, you may need to turn off a valve or merely re-light a
pilot light that has gone out. If you have any doubts, please give us a call at (336) 248-3945.

If the odor is strong, turn off any flame nearby, leave the building, and take all people and pets with you. It’s a good idea to leave a door open to help ventilate when you leave.

DON”T try to find the leak yourself with the aid of a candle or match. DON’T switch the lights on or off. Just leave the building and and go to a neighbor’s and phone us. We will send out a technician to
investigate. Phone (336) 248-2337 to reach our company after 5:00 and on weekends.

If the odor is outside, call us immediately. We will come and make a thorough inspection to assure your Safety. Natural Gas is one of the safest forms of energy anyone can use. And with your assistance we can keep it that way.
