The Street Department maintains the infrastructure of city streets, signs, pavement markings, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drainage pipes and structures, and provides ice and snow control on streets located within the city limits. The department provides 24-7 emergency services to ensure safe and reliable roadways. The department is responsible for 125 miles of roads, 47 miles of sidewalk and 124 miles of curb and gutter within the city limits.
The department consists of 4 crews: Asphalt, Sign/Markings, Concrete and Construction. Street sweeping/flushing is performed on city streets and city owned property; and a new environmentally friendly street sweeper arrived and became operational Fall 2012! The City increases productivity by cross training members of the crews to assist as necessary, while maintaining the specialized skills needed to accomplish the various tasks required of the street maintenance department.
Street Superintendent Phil Surratt oversees this area of responsibility.
