The Lexington Farmers Market is located in the Historic Southern Railway Freight Depot and is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from May to October offering fresh products from local farms. See the past unfold at the Davidson County Historical Museum and enjoy concerts, plays and other live entertainment at the 1,100 seat Edward C. Smith Civic Center. Coffee shops abound offering live music. Enjoy great food with lots of variety at nine restaurants.
Street festivals are abundant in Uptown Lexington with the granddaddy of them all, the Lexington Barbecue Festival, leading the way on the fourth Saturday in October. The Barbecue Festival is one of the largest one day food festivals in the southeast with attendance of 160,000 to see top name entertainment and crafts with the star of the show being Lexington style hickory-cooked pork barbecue. Uptown Lexington is also home to the officially sanctioned BBQ Capital Cook-off competition drawing over 50 professional teams and over 15,000 visitors the last weekend in April. The Uptown Lexington Christmas Open House, Summer Strolls, Alive After Five Concerts and parades celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Veterans and Christmas keep the streets rocking! At beautiful Finch Park, the City Recreation and Parks department sponsors the Lexington Multicultural Festival the first Saturday in May and the "Fantastic July 4th" Festival with an incredible fireworks display!
Two unique shopping and entertaining experiences involve two of Lexington's most famous celebrities - Bob Timberlake and Richard Childress. The Bob Timberlake Gallery is home to the art, furniture, accessories and memorabilia of the internationally known artist who was born and raised in Lexington. The Richard Childress Winery and Vineyards, owned by the NASCAR legend, is in the top 25 tasting rooms in the nation according to Wine Enthusiast magazine and offers wine tastings, great food, tours and live music every weekend.
