Lexington Utilities Offers Excess Flow Valve Installation for Natural Gas Customers
Posted Date: 4/13/2017 12:00 PM

Effective April 14, 2017, in accordance with new federal regulation 49 CFR 192.383(e), Lexington Utilities Natural Gas Department is offering the installation of an excess flow valve (EFV) on the natural gas line to your property.  An EFV is a mechanical shut-off device that can be installed in the gas pipe running to the gas meter at your property (the “service line”),  and is designed to shut off the flow of natural gas automatically if the service line breaks, for example, by an excavation accident.  Stopping the flow of gas from a broken service line reduces the risk of natural gas fire, personal injury and/or property damage.  If you notify us that you want an EFV, we will contact you to set up an appointment to discuss installing an EFV on your service line.
