One-Side-of-Street Garbage Pilot Program
Posted Date: 3/13/2018

Recycling and WasteFamiliar with one-side-of-street garbage collection? This idea is quickly gaining interest from City Council and citizens. As a result, the City will be implementing a Pilot Program for garbage (green) rollout containers only. This Pilot Program will take place in the Glenwood neighborhood only. The streets located in the Glenwood Area include: Market, Mocksville, Glenwood, Shoaf, Archdale, Evergreen, Highland, Mitchell, Fox Run, Glen Oaks, Chickadee, Hunters Way, Quail, Van Clair, Nottingham, Windsor and Brookgreen. The City began notifying customers in the Glenwood Area on March 9th, and the Pilot Program will begin April 6th. The Glenwood Area was selected because of its ideal low-traffic neighborhood. Citizens from the Glenwood Area requested consideration for one-side-of-street collection at a recent Ward 2 Community Meeting. This program is not intended to be city wide because not all communities provide the requirements needed.

Benefits of one-side-of-street collection include:

• Reduces long-term street damage
• Reduces carbon emissions
• Garbage truck will pass each street one time
• Reduces fuel consumption
