Effective July 1, 2018, the City of Lexington's Recycling and Waste Department is implementing a plan to enforce City Ordinance Chapter 10, Section 10-56 (1) stating that any container placed at curbside must be removed by midnight on the day of collection. Any person(s) not in compliance with this ordinance will receive a bright green violation sticker on their rollout container. Citizens have 3 warnings before a fine is imposed. The warnings are as follows:
- Warning - Violation sticker with checkbox stating your help is requested
- Warning - Violation sticker stating 1st notice of violation and 1st warning
- Warning - Violation sticker stating 2nd notice of violation and 2nd warning
- Fine - Violation sticker stating 3rd notice of violation and a $50 fine will be applied to your bill
When rollout containers are left at the street or curb, it not only affects neighborhood appearance, but it is also unsanitary and impedes traffic flow and safety at intersections. The City hopes this plan will address those concerns.
