Recreation - Festivals & Events
The Lexington Recreation and Parks Department organizes two annual festivals each year that involve hundreds of volunteers and draw thousands of attendees from Lexington
and beyond.
This year celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Multicultural Festival held the
first weekend in May at Finch Park.
A main stage
area and five villages are
set up representing our African-American, Asian, Latino, Native American and pioneering
heritage. Each village showcases native dress, music, visual arts, exhibits
and foods indicative of their particular region. The festival is a day filled
with the sights, sounds and smells of foreign lands. It offers a wonderful
and
educational outing for families with children.
Each 4th of July the Recreation Department hosts the "Fantastic Fourth" Festival.
Also held at Finch Park, the festival offers amusements, music and activities for
kids of all ages. The highlight of the festival is the evening fireworks display.
Thousands of folks enjoy Lexington's patriotic celebration and make it a part of
their family "4th" tradition.
Along with annual festivals, Robbins Recreation Center acts as host to several seasonal
events. Our annual holiday craft show brings together several dozen artisans
and crafters from all over the Piedmont and draws hundreds to the Center for pre-holiday
shopping. If you are looking for something special made by hand, you can be
sure to find it at the annual show!
The staff of the Lexington Recreation Department also hold an annual Volunteer and
Sponsor Appreciation Dinner. We are proud to recognize the many folks who
make our programs a success through their financial support and the donation of
their time.
